McDade’s research interests are entrepreneurship, business, and economic development in Africa. Until 2000, her primary research area has been West Africa, specifically Ghana. Her research includes micro-, small-, and medium-scale businesses in the informal and formal sectors. How these enterprises interact within their economic environment is important; for example, how local industrial districts allow related business such as auto repair, auto parts manufacturing, and auto finishing to network.
